Two online movie-download services, Movielink and CinemaNow will soon offer movie downloads at the same time the DVD releases hit retailers like Blockbuster and Best Buy. The releases by Movielink, owned by several major Hollywood movie studios will include King Kong, Brokeback Mountain and college male favorite Saw II. The downloads will have some restrictions built in. The releases cannot be burned or copied onto discs that can be played on other devices like a DVD player. However, the movies can be copied to play on as many as two other PCs. Clearly, the Hollywood studios are moving quicker to embrace technology and online offerings than the music industry was. Is this the start of a new trend?
