World Wrestling Entertainment will be testing out the dangerous waters of the print media world when it launches its own magazine later this year. This is an interesting move for a company whose target audience isn't exactly prone to reading lots of magazines. The WWE title won't just be your standard promotional extension of the brand, instead the title will offer entertainment content including movie reviews as well as some men's grooming content. The magazine will carry a hefty $5.99 newsstand price, which off of the top of my mind now, could scare off a sizable percentage of the target demo. I realize the WWE is still considered a strong brand in many circles and its regular on-air programming remains in the top 15 most watched television shows by teen guys, but most of the other content companies who went after teen and twentysomething men via print have struck out. Even one of the tops in the category, Maxim, has been struggling of late.
