This past weekend is not one of Hollywood's favorites. With the start of school for many, the official kick-off of the new NFL season and a big weekend of college football marquee match ups had the major studios scrambling to fill up seats. No surprise then to see in its first week out, Sony's "The Covenant" taking the top grossing spot at $9.0 million. According to reports, ticket sales for this past weekend were down nearly 50% from two weeks ago and 30% compared to the same weekend last year. The fact that a teen-focused film is again the number one grossing film in the country, even on an off weekend, continues to reaffirm the incredible impact the demographic has on overall ticket sales.
