It was the worst kept secret in Las Vegas. The annual CES convention is in full swing and even though I am not there this year, I would bet the buzz around the convention halls and in the hotels centered around Apple's foray into the cell phone market. Yesterday, the buzz turned into reality. In typical spectacle fashion, Apple CEO Steve Jobs gave convention attendees a close look at the new $499 or $599 iPhone, which will be available to consumers by the middle of this year. So far, the feedback and reviews from technology critics has been very positive, but that is nothing new for Apple these days. Essentially, Apple has taken the personality of its Macbook and put it in a cell phone. There is one big catch, and it is a big one, but one that we expected, the iPhone will only be available to Cingular Wireless subscribers, the number two carrier behind Verizon Wireless among Gen Y.
