Two technology and entertainment companies that rely on the youth market for their bulk of their revenues came out with especially strong financial results yesterday that ended up even surpassing optimistic analyst projections. Some of these performance metrics are just plain scary. Apple sold another 10.5 million iPods (that's over 100,000 a day) in the latest quarter bringing the total number of iPods sold to date to 100 million, yes, that's 100 million. It also looks like the Macbook continues to gain share within the personal computer market with the company selling 1.5 million in the past three months, an increase of 36% compared to an average growth rate of 11% across the entire computer industry. Looks like more great news for Apple and bad news for competitors like Dell and HP. Switching gears to Nintendo, which has literally been on a tear since last November, the company announced it sold nearly 6.0 million Wii consoles worldwide in the latest quarter with about 2.4 million being sold here in the U.S. What was somewhat surprising to us, is the continued global popularity of Nintendo's portable gaming system, the DS. The company sold an impressive 16 million DS units in the latest quarter.
