Social networking site Twitter has a simple question to ask, what are you doing? Really, it is as simple as that. Apparently, the procrastination tool has caught on with a lot of people, which you will see if you visit the site. At its essence, Twitter is an example of participatory social media in its finest hour to date. The site merges thoughts and feedback from member's friends and complete strangers all in one nice little display packet. Some people have already referred to Twitter as social media on steroids and several more people have talked about the future prospects for Twitter the same way people talked about instant messaging five years ago. As opposed to a busy MySpace interface, Twitter's interface is Googleque in the sense that is easy to use and ridiculously simple. The simplicity factor might just be the one that catapults the site into the upper echelons of social media users. The fact that Twitter's technology already scales to wireless devices like cell phone alerts makes it all the more alluring and traditional media companies are sure to be calling.
